The Numbers tool for Mac allows users to export.numbers file or any other spreadsheet to Excel compatible file format. If you have a.xlsx file, you can open it with Excel for Windows. The.xlsx file format is the default for most of the recent versions of Excel, and even older versions of the software can be updated with a compatibility pack to allow those versions of the software to open and edit newer file types. Conversely, you can use the instructions below to set a different file type for new files created in Excel 2011, such as the older.xls default, or the commonly used.csv file type.
Thanks for the prompt replies. Gabrielle I have tried deleting the plist and restarting my computer, to no avail.
What is the associated lock file? I tried firefox, no dice. Using safari. Tried using Terminal, just got this message: users-macbook-pro: user$ unzip /Users/user/Downloads/Instructors%20 '14.xlsx Archive: /Users/user/Downloads/Instructors%20'14.xlsx inflating: xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml inflating: xl/sharedStrings.xml inflating: xl/styles.xml inflating: xl/workbook.xml inflating: xl/rels/workbook.xml.rels inflating: rels/.rels inflating: ContentTypes.xml 3. Already tried Unarchiver.

Macfixer I changed the extension to.zip, it just opened several folders and docs like when i tried Unarchiver. I can open zip files into word from Google Docs, but not spreadsheet docs.? You need to be using Office 2011 for Mac for best real-world compatibility with any current Mac OS (certainly 10.7 and later) and best compatibility with any current Windows version(s) of Office. Office v X is so ancient that it should be discarded completely. It requires Rosetta in order to run on any Intel Mac, which means you can't be using anything newer than 10.6. If you're using anything prior to 10.6 you should emphatically not be as it is lacking important security-related updates and fixes, can't run any current Java, can't run any current browser - not any current Safari nor Firefox nor Chrome.
Currently, if you buy Office '2014' or a 365 Subscription, you get Office 2011 for Mac - the version numbers don't line up across PC/Mac, never have:-/ (blame Microsoft and/or the Mac Business Unit division of Microsoft). Mac OS X 10.6.8 is no longer getting security updates. So yes it will 'work' but I'd suggest the latest Firefox as your main browser, or Google Chrome - but I suggest real caution and care until Google fixes the gaping hole of malvertisers using plugins as an an exploit: so far just in Windows but it's still a concern as a vector for untrustworthy, unchecked and un-verifiable code getting onto a system. Apart from other legitimate privacy concerns vs.
At least Mozilla does screen Firefox plugins so far.
